Undergraduates in the department have the opportunity to study nineteenth-century art and visual culture as follows:
BA 1 Nineteenth-Century Art and design as part of Introduction to Modern Art
BA 2 Level 2. Course on 'Art and Society in the C19th'.
BA 3 and 4 Level three Special subject course taught by specialists, and changing yearly. Some options specialize in art of the nineteenth century: eg: Painting in England 1840 - 1860 , taught by Professor Lynda Nead; Landscape and the Nineteenth Century , taught by Dr Carol Jacobi, associate lecturer), whilst others include nineteenth century art in their scope (eg. Paris Moderne: Art, Design and Modernity 1889 - 1939 , taught by Dr Tag Gronberg; Photography and its Representations 1840 - 1950, taught by Dr Patrizia Di Bello).
At MA Level, students may choose from a rolling programme of options similar to those of the BA specialisms. In 2006 the relevant titles were: Inventing the Victorians and Gender, Modernity and the City taught by Lynda Nead; Photography and the Index, taught by Patrizia Di Bello.
